While the Passive House Standard has been practiced in Europe for about 20 years, it has only recently made its arrival to the US. PassivWorks’s Rick Milburn is the first builder in California to attain certification by the Passive House Institute U.S. (PHIUS). In October 2010, he put his knowledge to the test and completed the first Certified Passive House™ retrofit in the United States and the first Certified Passive House™ built in California.
